Knowledge Transfer and Mentoring

GPMi consultants are highly effective and efficient at getting the work done for our clients and this is the mainstay of our business. As an alternative to doing the work, GPMi consultants can work with our clients to acquire and develop the knowledge they need to do the work themselves. Ideally, this "knowledge transfer" happens within the client’s organization as a normal course of training and developing staff. In this rapidly changing work environment, however, the organization may not have the experience or resources to do so.

In our areas of expertise, we work with our clients to:

  • Identify the knowledge that needs to be transferred and the people involved
  • Design a plan and schedule to facilitate the transfer
  • Execute the transfer plan
  • Measure to ensure the transfer
  • Apply the knowledge transferred

The methods and practices we use to facilitate the knowledge transfer are:

  • Mentoring
  • Guided experience
  • Simulation
  • Guided experimentation
  • Work shadowing
  • Paired work
  • Communities of practice
  • Narrative transfer

The most powerful aspect of knowledge transfer is learning those "best practices" and "tips and tricks" that our consultants demonstrate in their everyday work.  This fluency of application is in part what differentiates information from knowledge.
